Merchant Navy

A career in the field of merchant navy is full of adventure and long voyages to distant places. It is a non-combatant commercial fleet, which deals with transporting cargo and, occasionally, passengers, by sea.  It requires people with strong inner self and tough physical form, along with a sporting, adaptive and adjustable attitude. The Merchant Navy fleet includes cargo ships, container ships, barge carrying ships, tankers, bulk carriers, refrigerator ships and passenger ships. Major tasks performed in merchant navy are in three basic areas of a ship: the Deck, the Engine and the Saloon Department. The willing candidates for this field need to complete a Bachelor's degree in Nautical Science or Marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. Merchant navy officers can also be employed by foreign shipping companies. Merchant Navy forms the backbone of international trade and the commercial purpose of the fleet offers lucrative openings for engineers and navigators.
