A Barrier of Material

Material Required:
A handkerchief, a glass, an elastic band and water

1.Take a wet handkerchief.
2. Fill the glass with water.
3. Place the handkerchief over the glass. Stretch it tightly and tie an elastic band around it.
4. Then quickly turn the glass upside down.
5. The water will not drop down from handkerchief.

Wondering How?
The wet handkerchief already filled the space between the fibres of the material. It thus, creates a tight barrier through which water cannot penetrate.
